Bengaluru Weather Update: While Bengaluru experienced heavy rainfall yesterday due to Cyclone Fengal's impact, schools and colleges in the city remain open today, December 2, 2024. Authorities have not issued any closure notifications, though a Yellow Alert has been declared for the city by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather disturbances in the Bay of Bengal continue to affect southern states, with Bengaluru expected to witness heavy rainfall throughout the day. Neighboring districts like Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shivamogga are under an Orange Alert, indicating the possibility of more severe weather conditions.

Cyclone Fengal's Aftermath:

Cyclone Fengal recently made landfall near Puducherry on November 30, causing heavy rain and gusty winds across Tamil Nadu and its neighboring states. While Tamil Nadu experienced the brunt of the cyclone, with schools and colleges closed in Chennai and nearby areas, Karnataka has so far avoided similar measures.

Puducherry recorded its highest-ever rainfall of 46 cm, according to S. Balachandran, Additional Director General of IMD-Regional Meteorological Centre. The cyclone also disrupted operations at Chennai Airport, leading to flight cancellations and diversions.

Bengaluru's Rainfall Forecast:

Monday (December 2): Heavy rainfall and cloudy skies are expected throughout the city.

Tuesday: The IMD predicts easing weather conditions with light rainfall across some areas.

Wednesday Onwards: Bengaluru is expected to see partly cloudy skies, with no significant rain forecast for the rest of the week.

While recent rains in Bengaluru had prompted the closure of schools and colleges, today’s operations remain unaffected as of now. Residents are advised to stay updated with official announcements.

Southern States Brace for Continued Rain

Cyclone Fengal’s influence is still evident across Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The IMD has urged citizens to remain cautious and heed weather alerts to avoid disruptions and ensure safety.
